Parkwood Center for the Arts

Mission Statement

To reach Greater Gaston County by promoting excellence through the arts and providing quality training with a Christian worldview, in order to develop God-given talents for enjoyment, performance, and ministry.

Tuition

Per semester—per course

$150— first family member
$120—second family member
$90—third, fourth, member, etc.

The additional Registration Fee is $25 for individuals and $35 per family.

Additional cost for class materials, determined by individual class instructors

Our Instructors

Courses

Calligraphy
3:30-4:30 pm Tuesdays
For students in Grades 4-5. Focus will be on learning basic techniques of Asian and Western calligraphy. This will be a class geared toward young budding artists!

Sculpture
4:30-5:30 pm Tuesdays
For students in Grades 6-8. Focus will be on exploring the world of 3-dimensional art in media such as melted plastics, found objects, soap, and other creative sources. It will be a fun way to express creativity in a very hands on approach!

Printmaking
5:30-6:30 pm Tuesdays
For students in Grades 9-12. Focus will be on learning various techniques of printmaking including marbleing, collographs, monoprint, and woodcut. It will be full of opportunity for individual expression!

Beginning Strings I
3:30-4:30 pm Thursdays
For violin, viola, and cello students with no experience. Focus will be on learning proper instrument and bow techniques with an introduction to note reading.

Beginning Strings II - continuation of fall semester
3:30-4:30 pm Thursdays
For violin, viola, and cello students who have been in Class I or have similar experience. Placement for students who have not taken Class I is determined by developing note reading ability.

Intermediate String Class
4:30-5:30 pm Thursdays
For violin, viola, and cello students who have had elementary public school string instruction. Focus is to further develop playing and reading technique in order to perform with the class and other string groups

Beginning Acoustic Guitar
5-6 pm Mondays
Students will learn basic chords, strumming techniques, and finger-picking patterns. Focus will be on repertoire from Classical to modern praise band music. There will be a recital at the end of the semester.

Please note:

  • Classes meet weekly for 15 weeks.
  • Classes are one hour per session.
  • Minimum enrollment per class is four.
  • Fall Semester Classes begin week of August 25, 2008
  • Registration forms and payments are due Monday August 18,2008.
