Ends of the Earth

Our primary focus is to take the Gospel to those who have the least access to it. We have established three partnerships with people group that most need the Gospel.

Nigeria

Dibo people – a group of 120,000 – 150,000 who live in villages in central Nigeria, north of the big river. Their primary religion is Islam mixed with African traditional religion. The Dibo have never been engaged by an evangelical group. The Bible has never been translated into their heart language. (Note: the Bible has been translated into the trade language Hausa, which is spoken among the Dibo)

As we begin this partnership our end vision is to share the Gospel in such a way that every Dibo will have the opportunity to respond. First, we will begin by mapping the Dibo villages, seeking to discover which villages are most open to hear the Gospel. We will then begin to share the Gospel through Bible storying, cassette tapes and the Creation to Christ story. The hope is that we will have new believers as well as discover some secret believers among the people. From this we plan to work with other Nigerian believers to set up some type of church among them.

We will have 4 to 6 teams a year among the Dibo. We also hope to discover additional churches to join us in this work that we may be among the Dibo every month.

Honduras 2003 – 2009

Chorti Indians of western Honduras – They are a part of the Mayan culture This has a great influence on their religion as their many Mayan gods are mixed with Mary and Jesus through the Catholic Church. Parkwood has served along beside Billy & Mary Collins, missionaries to the Chorti.

The Collins have discovered the best long term platform to reach the Chorti is through agriculture. They have a ten acre model farm which serves as the launching point for the Gospel. Through building relationships among the Chorti, the Collins have been able to share the Gospel. Chronological Bible storying is the key way to share with this verbal based culture. In the past year we have been privileged to see God at work as Chorti men, women and children are coming to Christ.

As Parkwood serves among the Chorti, we prayer walk, paving the way into new villages. We provide small medical evangelistic teams to share the Gospel as well as Bible story.

Romania 2005 – 2009

Cristi & Otilia Sonea – serve as church planters in western Romania

Cristi served at Parkwood as a pastoral intern while completing seminary at Southeastern. He went back to Romania to pastor and plant churches.

In the fall of 2005, Christ began a work in the village of Cordeu. A church building was there but no people. Since that time we have seen God bless as the first 10 people to ever be baptized in the village, have been baptized. The church of none now averages around 50 or more!

We have been privileged to be a part of this ministry with Cristi through a variant of ministries: VBS, children’s Bible camp, revival services and prayer walking. It is our joy to serve with a young man that God has His hand upon. To share in all the awesome actions that God is up to in their village and church.
