The Master's Plan

Master's Provision

Realizing that the Master Site Plan would cause ministry areas to be uprooted by construction, contacts were made to find locations for ministry to continue as we were building. These contacts began in December 2004.

December 2004 — Brian Lowe–Student Pastor--contacted Gymnastics World* to seek a temporary lease solution for the Student Ministry. Several days after Brian contacted them, he received an unsolicited call from the owner offering to sell the property to the Church for $750,000 with a 5-year lease agreement to allow them to stay on the property.

Mid-January 2005 — The Property Utilization Team and Pastoral Staff met and agreed to ask the Architect, Steve Onxley, to see if the property could be used for our needs and what it would cost to renovate the building. He reported that the building could be useful for the needs of our Church and estimated a cost of approximately $740,000 to renovate the property. After his report, the Property Utilization Team asked Joel Gerringer and Bruce Rhyne, both with negotiating experience, to represent the Church to see if an agreed upon price could be reached with the stipulation that the owners must vacate the property.

February 2005 — Both Bruce and Joel stated that the initial meeting went well, but that Mr. Briggs and his wife were continuing to ask to sell the property at $750,000. Our negotiators stated our need to move in quickly and that a five year lease was not an option. It was also emphasized to Mr. Briggs that if this was an option for Parkwood we would have to move on it now. In addition, if they did not sell at this time, future options of buying the property would be limited by the Master Site Plan.

February 2005 — Four days after the initial meeting, Mr. Briggs called back and stated that he would sell Gymnastics World for $700,000 if he could stay in the property until August. Mr. Briggs was informed that this would have to be brought before the Deacon Body and then before the Church before any such decision could be made.

* Please note: In 2002, we attempted to negotiate with Gymnastics World to purchase the property. The price they wanted was far greater than the appraised value and what we were willing to bring to the Church.
