The Student Ministry Building

The Student Ministry Building would provide a large amount of space for our church to utilize for the continued ministry to students in and through this church. All Student Ministries would take place in the Student Ministry Building. Students would have a place to call their own. The Student Ministry Building will provide a place for students to identify with our ministry.

  • The The Assembly Area would meet our needs far into the future as our Student Ministry grows. Not only would this facility be used on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings for our student ministry, but this area would be more than sufficient for most special events like concerts and other ministry opportunities and would seat roughly 350-400 people. The primary use of this space would be for large group meetings. However, this space would also have facilities for basketball and other activities for students and others from our church to enjoy.
  • The Classroom Area will provide space for adults who love students to invest in the lives of students and impart the truth of God’s Word through our Student Ministry. The Classroom area is a two-story area comprised of 8 large rooms that will hold 35-40. These classes will be used for our Bible Study Groups on Sunday morning. These rooms can also be divided to create 16 rooms that will hold 15-20 providing for our small group ministry on Wednesday and Sunday night.

The Student Ministry Building would also provide a platform for our student ministry to reach out to our community in ways that have never been possible. The large fellowship space and entry provides a place for students and adults to connect and build relationships that are intentional for the sake of the gospel. After School Open Hours will give students a place to go and a front door to our ministry for students who are not involved. Friday Night Open Hours will provide a place for students to go to enjoy one another. Open Hours before and after our primary ministry times will give students another reason to bring their friends. The possibilities are endless as we look at what God could do through this facility.

The Parking Lot

The motion from the Property Utilization Team, the Pastoral Staff and Deacons also includes building a Parking Lot adjacent to Buildings C and D. This area is currently being used to park cars on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights. The proposed Parking Lot would include the following:

  • 98 spaces — This would allow an estimated 250 more people to park and attend worship and Bible study here at Parkwood. That’s 250 more people glorifying God as they grow into Christian maturity and go with the gospel to all people(s).
  • An egress onto Dixon Road — This would give our church another exit for traffic which would assist us during high traffic times as we try to move people in and out of the parking lot.
  • A retention pond — This would allow us to comply fully with the requirements of the City of Gastonia as we build this project.

A parking lot is not the most glamorous thing you could imagine and does not sound very spiritual. However, if people are unable to park here, they cannot worship here. In this sense, parking becomes a glory of God issue. The addition of more parking allows us to uphold our purpose in the lives of more people here at Parkwood Baptist Church.
